SPD series unit can install in five to six different ways. These configurations based on how it connected to the HVAC system. There are the following types of installations:
Parallel to the central return duct.
In this configuration, the pool room dehumidifier connected in parallel with the return. Which means, intake is from return duct and dry air discharge is also to return duct.
Main return duct to main supply duct.
In this method, the indoor pool dehumidifier connected in parallel with the AC unit. Intake of air is from the central return duct and discharge of dry air into the main supply duct. Hence, it needed to install a backdraft damper at the outlet of SPD. This process is to avoid backdraft when the dehumidifier is off, and AC is working.
Dedicated return to the main supply.
If you like to dehumidify a specific area, then use this configuration. The unit takes intake from the dedicated return from that particular area. And then discharge dry air into the central supply duct. Here again, we need to install a backdraft damper at the discharge of the SPD pool room dehumidifier.
Dedicated return to the main return.
This configuration is like the previous one. Except, the discharge of dry air is into the central return duct instead of the main supply duct.

This configuration used when indoor pool humidity needs to reduce in a closed room. In such a case, an indoor pool dehumidifier can install without any ducting. If the room is big, then it needs to do ducting for inlet and outlet. Or else, install many units.

We can avoid installing a separate return to the SPD for indoor pool humidity control. If the existing system has many returns, then you can use one of them.
Always select a return from a central location in the structure. The central area that always open to the rest of the structure. Do not use a return from a room that may have its door closed much of the time. Or, install a separate return from the open part of the house.
Installation in an Attic with an existing forced-air HVAC system.
If SPD dehumidifier installed above a finished area then, use a secondary drain pan. Likewise, install a drain pan for the area where water leakage could cause damage. Always use an overflow interrupter switch.

Installation in a Structure with no existing forced-air HVAC system.

Maintenance of SPD pool room humidity controller.
